SUMMARY:Grief: Ethical Considerations in Naturopathic Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Naturopathic Doctors deal with many grey areas of medicine in supporting chronic illness and the challenges being in a supportive role. One of those areas is mental health support\, of which lifestyle counselling is a key component to practice. \nWith the advent of the pandemic\, naturopathic doctors are playing key roles in supporting healing from loss including primary and secondary losses from COVID-19\, changes in lifestyle including job\, relationship\, financial and social losses that have come from this period of time. \nGrief has many different sources and definitions\, but often when health care professionals feel unequipped to handle difficult conversations\, referral is leaned on as the main option. With wait times and a burdened health care system\, this may not be achievable nor possible. So what are the ways that we can safely and ethically support these conversations in the scope of naturopathic practice? Join us and learn the many basics of grief support you will be doing\, and what conversations you can guide that are rewarding and healing for you and your patients.

SUMMARY:Practicing Conscious Medicine: The Impact Of The Physician’s Mental Health On The Therapeutic Relationship
DESCRIPTION:Patients won’t tell you if they’ve experienced bias\, when rapport is damaged\, often you’ll never hear from your patient again. Studies have shown that all physicians and nurses have implicit bias. As the movement of practicing conscious medicine is growing rapidly\, more evidence is showing that there is a significant correlation between the level of implicit bias and lower quality of care.\nIf you are passionate about working in mental health\, this course highlights key areas of training that are crucial to working in this field. It will illustrate why taking care of your own mental health and having more awareness of your biases could be one of the most important things you ever do in your medical career. This course will start to teach you that taking care of your own mental health starts the work that patients need their doctors to do to truly meet them where they are at in their healing journey. By taking this course you will join the movement of conscious physicians so patients feel heard and have the freedom to explore all areas of healing with you in a safe therapeutic environment.\n\nLearning outcomes:\n\nUnderstand how the mental state of the physician can impact the therapeutic relationship\nIdentify your bias and judgement\nUnderstanding the impact of your bias on your patient retention and your practice\nKnowing the scope and limitations of your training\nStrategies for your own personal work and self-care
