SUMMARY:Ascorbic Acid in the Treatment of Opioid Addiction
DESCRIPTION:FREE WEBINAR \nPresented by: Alexander Schauss\, PhD\, CFS\, FACN \nOpioid addiction is a serious health and social problem that afflicts societies around the world. A study conducted in New York City in the 1960’s demonstrated that increasing doses of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) attenuated withdrawal symptoms\, allowing addicts to end their dependence on heroin. \nOfficials from the National Institute for Drug Abuse and Alcoholism (NIDAA) at the U.S. National Institutes for Health (NIH)\, confirmed the effectiveness of ascorbic acid\, yet failed to provide funding to support further research on this viable treatment. \nIn this presentation Dr. Schauss will discuss his original research findings and the clinical protocol used to attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms. \n  \nWebinar details: \nDate: Thursday November 4\, 2021\nTime: 4:00pm PDT (Log in from 3:55)\nDuration: 1.5 hours\nRegistration: FREE \nThis webinar will be hosted on Zoom. A link will be sent to registrants 24 hours prior to the start time.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, November 25\, 2020 @ 4:00pm -5:30pm PST \nStress levels in 2020 are significantly increased compared with previous years. This can largely be attributed to COVID-19 and its accompanying social and financial pressures. In turn\, increased stress impacts sleep and results in sleep loss and sleep disorders.\n\nLack of sleep impacts nearly every key indicator of health\, and both temporary sleep disruption and chronic insomnia have been shown to have wide-ranging negative effects on cardiovascular\, endocrine\, immune\, and nervous systems.\n\nThis 1.5 hour interactive webinar for primary care providers will focus on nutritional interventions for re-establishing normal sleep in patients suffering from insomnia.\n\nUpon completion of this program\, participants will be able to:\n\nDiscuss non-pharmacological approaches to treating insomnia in a time of increased anxiety and social disruption.\nEvaluate claims for potential health benefits or adverse effects for nutritional supplements commonly used as sleep aids.\nIdentify specific comorbidities and medications which may impact insomnia\, and nutritional support strategies for improved patient outcomes.\n\n*This webinar will be recorded. \n\nPresenter:\nAileen Burford-Mason\, PhD\, is an immunologist\, cell biologist and orthomolecular nutritionist with a deep interest in the scientific evidence for nutrition and health. She regularly gives seminars for both professional and lay audiences\, and has become known for her ability to take complex nutritional research and translate it into concise\, evidence-based guidelines for the safe\, effective use of nutritional supplements. She is formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine\, University of Toronto\, and Director of a cancer research laboratory at The Toronto General Hospital.
