Allen (Scott) Tyler
Dr. Allen (Scott) Tyler is a second generation Naturopathic physician, following in his father’s footsteps, with a strong sense of the helping professions also instilled by his mother’s long career in nursing.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in general sciences from the University of Windsor, Ontario, in 1982, and thereafter entered the doctoral program at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Since his graduation, and licensure in British Columbia in 1986, he has practiced in Langley, British Columbia. Doctor Tyler developed a keen interest in conditions that relate to metabolic dysfunction, particularly hypothyroidism, and is currently completing a book on the topic. He co-authored a book, “A Pound of Prevention” in 1995 with his father Dr. Allen N. Tyler,(MD, ND, PhD). His interest in writing, and botanical medicine resulted in acontract with a United States based firm (BotanicalMedicine.org) writing about medicinal botanicals. He co-founded a private herbal company in the 1990’s, “Bowen Island Botanicals”, specializing in medicinal herbal tinctures, thereafter, chaired the Canadian Naturopathic Education and Research Society for 10 years, and went on to serve as vice president and a board member for 10 years with the Northwest Naturopathic Convention (a professional medical education society) until 2018. Additionally, sitting on several committees of the ANPBC (BC College of Naturopathic Physicians), to which he has been a member for the past 39 years.
In 2012 he established a free clinic, in Langley at The Salvation Army’s Gateway of Hope, and for five years provided comprehensive medical care and follow-up for their guests.
Dr. Tyler briefly sat on the school board of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Boucher Campus, New Westminster), where he regularly guest lectured to third and fourth year medical students about clinical diagnosis and treatment. In 2018 until 2021 he was the senior staff supervisor of clinical practice in the college’s out patient clinic. Presently he is planning the next two year term as a member of British Columbia’s Naturopathic Doctors association board. He believes that the future of medical care lies in the hands of students of all healthcare professionals and their qualified, experienced instructors. He operates a satellite clinic for the school through his private office, the oldest federally recognized commercial building (c.1889) in “Langley Prairie”, and Langley’s oldest medical building, i in 1929 by Dr. William Marr. Semi-retired, he spends free time as a volunteer at the Greater Vancouver Zoo sharing his knowledge of their exotic animals with the public, playing golf, writing, hobby farming, and chasing after his grandchildren.
